Now how is "Skewed body image" interlinked with social media and taking selfies?
How the world is into trouble by this selfie mania or more precisely look good mania?
If we deeply look into the picture, negative body image is very closely linked to look good mania.
There is a wave of competition between the younger generations that, "Yes, we can too look picture perfect and beautiful like any celebrity or model". More the number of likes received on a particular click, more the self confidence boost up. Similarly more the number of compliments one gets when someone actually sees him or her in real, more the self confidence boost up. But there is another side too.
What if one takes notice of the picture which is very carefully taken and with an attention to get noticed? This may also happen that a person is getting enough likes and now there is a fear of staying in the competition? Here is where "Negative Body Image" or "Skewed body image" is born.
People these days have changed the definition of beauty. Neither simple outer beauty nor the inner beauty holds a value. If you look gorgeous, appealing and up-to-date from head to toe, you are beautiful. This attitude is raising the pressure amongst young people and they are developing Negative Body Image about themselves.
In a survey done by some Positive Body Image workshop, it was seen that there are a lot many people who have developed this negative image phobia. When they asked to click a selfie with a condition that no morphing of the picture by any means, they found that it became a challenge for most of the people out there. People were hesitant and started trying different angels for a better picture. No one tried to take a natural picture without look good phobia in mind. Thus the survey shows how badly we are infected with this phobia.
Certain apps are doing awesome business, who promises an average looking person, a total makeover. These apps use photo editor as their tool to transform a normal face into a selfie-ready-face. Ultimately, these apps are spreading the waves that you are not perfect and thus you need transformation to obtain a celebrity type image.
Skewed body image is what we all are acquiring, slowly without realization. Time is to get up and check ourselves. A bigger root of this problem is known as Body Dysmorphic disorder, wherein the patient sees a problem with their face or body but actually there is no such problem. In other words, they find difficulty with skewed body image. So, every sensible youth should give a check on the amount of attention they are giving to their looks and must believe in the natural creation of God is the best for us.
