Delhi government faces shortage of beds for dengue patients. 136 dengue cases were reported in Chandigarh. Total 3,791 dengue cases reported, 1919 is the number of cases reported last week only. These are the figures reported by NDTV news. The vector-borne fever called Dengue fever is affecting us so badly. Therefore it becomes important for us to know the dengue fever symptoms, cure and treatment, to save our lives and lives of our loved ones.

Dengue symptoms at early stage:
Dengue spread with the bite of a mosquito called Aedes aegypti. This mosquito when bites, transmits the virus to the person. The mosquito may be infected with four types of dengue serotype viruses. An early recognition of the symptoms may save someone’s life from this deadly virus.
Following are some of the dengue symptoms that are commonly seen in infected people.
- The dengue begins with a sudden high fever. It may be as high as 104-105 degrees Fahrenheit.
- After 4-5 days of fever, a red rash may appear on the body of infected person. Then a second rash of similar type may appear later. The skin becomes overly sensitive with discomfort.
- The patient experiences a strong pain in the head behind the eyes.
- The body experiences fatigue due to joint and muscular pain.
- Nausea, vomiting , nasal stuffiness and sore throat.
- Lymph nodes get swelled. Lymph nodes are located throughout our body and become swollen due to the infection caused by the virus.
The more severe form of dengue called Dengue hemorrhagic fever causes more severe symptoms like presence of hemorrhage in the patient’s body, bleeding gums or nose, black color stools, red or purple color blisters under the skin of the infected person. Dengue haemorrhagic fever is the most dangerous form of dengue and it may take the form of Dengue shock syndrome.
Dengue Shock Syndrome Symptoms:
The most deadly form of deadly dengue, occurs mostly in children below the age of 10 years. It has the following symptoms:
- Abdominal pain
- Shocks arising due to circulatory collapse.
- Continuous high fever
- Week pulse
- Blood in stool and blood spots in skin.

Dengue symptoms can be cured and treated through relieving the symptoms, precautions and through certain natural remedies as there is no antibiotic for its treatment.
Preventions for Dengue Fever:
- Avoid being a part of crowded places or stay away from thickly populated areas.
- Wear full sleeves clothes when walking outside.
- Apply mosquito repellent creams on exposed parts of body and carry them while walking out.
- When at home use air-conditioners.
- Check doors and windows if they have any holes or spaces for mosquitoes to come in.
- You should use mosquito nets while sleeping.
- Do not allow water to collect in old tiers, pots, cans. Don’t keep such items in or outside home.
- Always cover water storage like tanks, buckets etc.

Papaya Leaf Juice:
It is now proved that the juice extracted from papaya leaf can cure dengue fever symptoms. The main cause of death from dengue is the decrease of number of platelets from our blood. The enzymes (Chymopapin and Papin) present in the leaf of papaya helps to fight against any viral infections, bringing the number of white cells and platelets up. Therefore it is a miracle for treating the fall of platelets in blood.
It is easy to prepare the life saving juice at home.
- Take fresh leaves of papaya.
- Clean them and grind them in a mixture.
- 4-5 teaspoons of this juice, twice a day will increase the count.
- For good results, continue to take the juice for a weeks time.
Wheat-grass for Dengue:
Some people may not be able to drink papaya juice due to its bitter taste. So they may try wheatgrass juice, which also helps to increase the platelets count, RBC and WBC count.
A doctor’s advice is a must before taking wheat grass as treatment.

Giloy for Dengue Fever:
Giloy is a herb found in North India and is found to cure dengue fever symptoms. It helps to reduce fever and inflammations in the body. It is typically fruitful in building up our immunity against infections. It has antispasmodic and anti-periodic properties that not only fight against dengue virus but also swine flu and malaria. Giloy is available in the form of pills in any Ayurvedic medicine shop. It can also be prepared from its stem.
Treatment in Hospital:
In hospitals dengue is treated by relieving the symptoms. In a typical treatment,
- The patient is asked to take plenty of fluids and take rest.
- To relief pain, certain pain killers are given with Tylenol.
- Aspirin is a total no for the patients as it may worsen the existing symptoms.
- Doctors give for codeine or acetaminophen for severe joint and muscular pain.
Warning: Though the name of drugs for treating dengue is mentioned above, they should only be taken under doctor’s supervision.
